The Magic of the Roscommon Lights
The Roscommon Lights have become an integral part of the town’s festive atmosphere, drawing in visitors from far and wide. The lights are a testament to the community’s spirit and dedication to creating a magical experience for all. The lights are designed and built by a team of volunteers, who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the display is both visually stunning and safe. The Roscommon Lights Committee is a non-profit organization that relies on donations and sponsorships to fund the display.
The Origins of Roscommon’s Christmas Lights
The tradition of Roscommon’s Christmas lights dates back to the 1980s, when a group of local residents came together to create a festive display. The idea was born out of a desire to bring some joy and cheer to the town during the holiday season. Since then, the tradition has continued to grow and evolve, with new volunteers joining each year. The first Christmas lights display was created using a combination of fairy lights, lanterns, and other decorations. The display was initially set up in the town center and has since expanded to include other areas of the town. The lights are designed to be visually striking and to create a festive atmosphere that is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
The Volunteers Behind the Lights
The success of Roscommon’s Christmas lights is largely due to the dedication and hard work of the volunteers who make it all happen. These volunteers are passionate about creating a festive atmosphere and are willing to put in the time and effort required to make it happen. The volunteers are responsible for designing and installing the lights, as well as maintaining them throughout the season. They work tirelessly to ensure that the display is up to date and that everything is in working order.
The Nativity scene will be set up in a large, specially designed enclosure, with a large Christmas tree in the centre. The Nativity scene will be accompanied by a large Christmas tree, and a festive market with over 40 stalls selling local crafts, food, and drinks.
The Nativity Scene: A Festive Tradition
The Nativity scene has been a beloved Christmas tradition for centuries. The first recorded Nativity scene was created in 1290 in Rome, Italy. Since then, it has become a staple of Christmas celebrations around the world. The Nativity scene typically features life-sized figures of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and the three wise men, as well as animals such as sheep and donkeys.
A New Location for the Nativity Scene
This year, the Nativity scene will be located in the pedestrianised area of the Square, behind the Bank of Ireland. The scene will be set up in a large, specially designed enclosure, with a large Christmas tree in the centre.
