❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How does the lumens to watts calculator work?

Enter a target light output and the LED's efficacy (lm/W) to estimate the wattage it draws — the higher the efficacy, the fewer watts for the same brightness.

Is the result exact?

It's a planning estimate using standard lighting rules of thumb. Real figures vary with the specific product, fitting, and conditions, so check the manufacturer's specification for an exact value and treat this as a starting point.

Can I put a brighter LED in my fixture?

Check two things on the fixture first. Its maximum wattage rating ("max 60 W") applies to the watts a bulb actually draws, not the "equivalent" watts printed on an LED box, and it is never to be exceeded. And a closed glass shade traps heat: use a bulb its package marks as suitable for enclosed fixtures, as many LEDs are not. Replacing a fixture or its wiring is electrical work that in many places must be done by a licensed electrician.
