GoVision, a leading provider of large-format displays, has unveiled its latest creation: a massive 15,500 square-foot high-definition digiLED LED screen at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. The state-of-the-art display is affectionately known as America’s Home for Racing, and its recent upgrade is set to revolutionize the motorsports entertainment experience for fans.
This custom-built 16mm digiLED Vision Ultra LED screen boasts an impressive 5.5 million pixels, providing unparalleled brightness, clarity, and color accuracy to NASCAR fans. The installation marks the latest in a series of high-profile Motor Speedway installations by GoVision, utilizing digiLED’s advanced LED technology.
Design and Construction
The new LED screen is a marvel of engineering, weighing over 47.6 tons and supported by six 30-foot-high steel pillars, each weighing 18,500 pounds (8,400 kg). This significant structure requires careful planning and execution, ensuring that the screen is both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.
- Steel support structure: The steel structure is a major component of any large outdoor screen installation, and GoVision was able to reuse the original framework, saving it from being ripped out and disposed of.
- Environmental considerations: The steel industry has a significant environmental impact, with 1.83 tons of CO2 emitted for every ton of steel produced, amounting to 7% of the world’s total carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The steel support structure is a significant part of the total cost of any large outdoor screen installation, and GoVision was able to reduce waste and support eco-friendly practices by repurposing the original framework.
The Benefits of digiLED Vision Ultra
The digiLED Vision Ultra LED screen technology offers several benefits, including:
- Aluminium backing: This increases strength and delivers greater thermal management, reducing maintenance and extending the screen’s lifespan.
- Resilient design: The internal structure is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including hurricanes and tornados.
- Pixilation and brightness: The 5.5 million pixels provide unparalleled brightness, clarity, and color accuracy, ensuring an exceptional viewing experience.
In addition to its technical benefits, the digiLED Vision Ultra screen is also designed with environmental sustainability in mind.
The Installation Process
The installation of the new LED screen was a complex process, requiring careful planning and execution. GoVision and digiLED worked together to design, produce, and construct the screen within a tight 100-day timeframe.
